Never Give Up
“I have three messages. One is we should never ever give up. Two is you never are too old to chase your dreams. Three is it looks like a solitary sport but it takes a Team.” – Diana Nyad
Diana Nyad is inspiring me this morning, the first work day after the end of the summer, first work day in September and first work day of this week.
If you don’t know, Diana Nyad yesterday became the first woman to swim from Cuba to Florida without a protective cage. She swam along jellyfishes, sharks and the like. It is worth noting that she is 64 years old, fulfilling a 35-year dream, on her 5th attempt. Talk about a story of perseverance, commitment and following your dreams.
How can those of us over 40, not be inspired by this feat? The history books are littered with those who accomplished great things in middle age from which we can also be inspired: Colonel Sanders started Kentucky Fried Chicken at 65, Rogets invented the Thesaurus at 73, Ray Kroc started McDonalds at 52, Laura Ingalls Wilder published the first book in the Little House on the Prairie series at 65 and Julia Child published her first cookbook at 49.
We are never too old to forgive the blunders of the past, execute on our dreams and to reinvent or stretch ourselves. Let Diana’s mantra guide you: ” Find a way.”
