It is a negligence of the mind
not to notice how at dusk
heron comes to the pond and
stands there in his death robes,
perfect servant of the system, hungry,
his eyes full of attention,
his wings pure light”

― Mary Oliver

You know when you are having one of those days when you are stressed. You are glad it is Friday but you have so much stuff on your plate you don’t have time for yet another cold, the third in 2 months.

You look in the cabinet find a strip of cold pills, pop 2 and get working crossing things of your long to do list.

Then you start feeling drowsy and can’t keep your eyes open. A light bulb goes off in your head, and you dig the package out of the trash. The cold medication was for nighttime.

Such was my day last Friday. Rushing through the day, failing to savour the moments and to pay attention to details. A wasted day. What a reminder to slow down.

The present moment is filled with joy and happiness. If you are attentive, you will see it.” – Thích Nhất Hạnh
