Your First Love
Things are what they are and for the most part we have to learn to accept and embrace the things we cannot change. It’s hard but it is the path to peace.
Your family is one of those things you cannot change who they are. Just as they can’t change you. They are who they are.
This Mothers Day I suggest you embrace all that your mom is. She will drive you crazy but there are so much about her that you admire, love and emulate. Go a step further and write her a love letter and then go even further and read it to her in person or over the phone, if you will not see her. Overflow her heart with love by being vulnerable and open. Never assume she knows how you feel or what you seek to emulate or admire. No one knows until it is shared and remember tomorrow is not promised.
So go ahead and be vulnerable, Hallmark has nothing on you.
For those of us whose mothers are now angels I share the following poem. Let it’s truth comfort you and whisper your own love letter to the sky.
Your Mother is always with you.
She’s the whisper of the leaves as you walk down the street.
She’s the smell of certain foods you remember,
flowers you pick, the fragrance of life itself.
She’s the cool hand on your brow when you’re not feeling well.
She’s your breath in the air on a cold winter’s day.
She is the sound of the rain that lulls you to sleep,
the colors of a rainbow; she is Christmas morning.
Your mother lives inside your laughter.
She’s the place you came from, your first home,
and she’s the map you follow with every step you take.
She’s your first love, your first friend, and sometimes your first enemy –
but nothing on earth can separate you.
Not time, not space… not even death.
